The Bait Ball
The Bait Ball is a multi-media immersive kinetic sculptural installation now permanently installed at FloridaRAMA in St Petersburg, FL. Taking its inspiration from schools of fish and human mosh pits, The Bait Ball explores the exquisite beauty and wonder of the real Florida landscape that is all around us – above our heads, and below our feet. Using 3D printing and digital manufacturing techinques to produce one of the world’s largest 3D zooetropes, The Bait Ball places viewers in a fantastical undersea experience that celebrates the power and beauty of one of the lynchpins of Florida’s aquatic ecosystem – the lowly mullet.
For this project, Devon Brady teamed up with collaborators Janine Awai, Phil Roach, William Glenn, Stephen Lindsey, Eliane Suding, and Zackery Sladden to create a completely immersive experience.
Munchausen Waves
Munchausen Waves made its debut at Tampa’s Gasparilla Music Festival in October of 2021. The 30-foot-long kinetic sculpture draws parallels between firefighting and ocean waves with undulating spirals of oranges and blues.
you can’t get there from here
Debuting at Tampa’s Tempus Projects in 2018, You Can’t Get There From Here mirrors the gallery ceiling, and provides viewers with prismatic belay glasses to set a stage onto which other dramas may be projected. Belay glasses shift viewers’ vision into the ceiling which reflects back down on them, providing participants with a view of themselves as seen from above — a sort of analog astral projection.
The installation functions as a frame or vessel into which art can be created and enjoyed. From quiet contemplation to dance parties with friends, the piece encourages viewers to transcend themselves in the most primal of ways - through music, movement, and trance.
The Music Box: Tampa Bay
Produced in collaboration with New Orleans Airlift on the Community Stepping Stones campus in Tampa's Sulphur Springs neighborhood, the Music Box: Tampa Bay created a temporary village of musical architecture along the banks of the Hillsborough River.
Produced by Devon Brady and his partners at Livework Studios, The Syphonium can now be seen at New Orleans Airlift’s headquarters in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans as part of the permanent intstallation — The Music Box Village.
Running Through Tampa
Running Through Tampa was an early meditation on history, memory, and place disguised as a marathon training blog. In preparation for running Tampa’s Gasparilla marathon in 2006, Devon ran and documented his experiences in the unique and historic neighborhoods of Tampa.
